The Access Point

I’m a Daddy’s girl. I was blessed with a father who was an incredibly strong and kind person and who, in partnership with my mom, built a solid foundation for my family. He was one of my greatest cheerleaders and he emboldened me with his “famous” celebratory mantra: “You’re a Jones Girl!” In His eyes, I could do no wrong -- nothing to make him ever stop loving me. He celebrated my wins and comforted me in (what I perceived as) my losses and failures.

Despite this never-ending love and affirmation, I still struggled with a sense of inadequacy. Growing up, I was a very shy and introverted overachiever who was repulsed by making mistakes. I was driven by "checking the box", getting good grades, and earning the recognition, but I was crippled by fear. Taking risks was my kryptonite, and I often wondered about if I was “good enough” or if I would ever get “there”...wherever “there” was.

Today is certainly a new day and I have come a loonng way with a whole lotta work! I am so proud of who I have become and the renewed perspective that continues to guide my life. I've learned to stop pursuing perfection; I now pursue purpose. I've gained new insight into the scripture that admonishes us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2). Of particular note was the “-ing” at the end of the word “renewing” which indicates a continuous act that happens over and over again. (My mom was an English teacher, so I pay attention to this kind of stuff :-).) I internalized the fact that in order to conquer the continual sense of inadequacy, it would require a repeated transformation of my thinking patterns about myself. In other words, it's often said: “If you change your thinking, you change your life.”

Your thoughts are the foundation of your life; EVERYTHING begins (or ends) with a single thought! And, the "magic" of it all is that YOU are the only one in control of your thoughts. No one else has the power, access, or authority over your thoughts. YOU hold the reigns and it’s up to you to determine how to -- as my mom would say -- put your thoughts under subjection and tell your thoughts what you’re going to think! Taking it a step further, you may need to do the same with the thoughts of others. Put them "in check" and don't allow them to control you! A mastered thought-life is the access point to personal wholeness and total well-being to live richly every day.

I became a certified life coach to join others on their journey to discover a life of abundant peace that starts in the mind. My role is to be a thought-partner to help illuminate the path of your life purpose and personal development. My hope is that whether or not I have the privilege to join you on your journey, you’ll commit to begin the work to live richly every day.
